Not An Educator

Hi, I'm Matthew

I've never taught a class. I've never managed a school. But I've spent enough time around the people who do to know that the thing most schools get wrong isn't instruction. It's how they treat their staff. Not intentionally. Not from a lack of care. But because the pressure to focus on student outcomes, data, curriculum, and compliance leaves almost no space to think strategically about the people delivering all of it.Teachers and staff who feel unseen, undervalued, and unsupported don't stay. And the ones who do stay but feel that way? They're not giving you their best.I work with schools and districts on the thing that changes everything else. How you lead your people. How you take care of them. How you build a culture where staff actually want to be.

What I Do

Workshops and Professional DevelopmentPractical, honest sessions for staff and leadership teams on the things that actually affect culture and retention. How to lead people well. How to have hard conversations. How to build trust in a team.Designed for inset days, leadership retreats, and staff development sessions.

Leadership Coaching for Middle LeadersWe take our best teachers and make them leaders. But being a great teacher doesn't make you a great leader. Most middle leaders are promoted into management with almost no support and left to figure it out on their own.
I work one on one with department heads, team leaders, and others stepping into leadership for the first time.
Not as someone who's been through the education system. As someone who has spent decades developing people and knows what good leadership actually requires.

About Matthew Wolfskill

I'm not an educator.I've never stood in front of a classroom or managed a school building. And that's exactly the point.I spent nearly two decades as a pastor. That means I spent nearly two decades leading people, developing teams, navigating conflict, and holding organizations together through hard seasons.

Without a corporate hierarchy. Without the authority of a formal structure. Just trust, relationships, and the daily work of caring for people well.I also hold a Master's degree in Leadership and Management and have worked in school administration. I understand how districts function and what the pressures of an educational environment actually feel like from the inside. But I see your world differently because I didn't grow up in it. I'm not going to tell you how to teach. I'm not going to give you another framework you already know.I'm going to ask the questions an outsider asks and say the things that are sometimes easier to hear from someone with nothing to lose inside your system. That's what Not an Educator is. A different perspective. From someone who genuinely cares about what happens inside your schools.

Looking After Your Staff Goes Beyond Leadership

Good leadership makes a difference. But even in the best led schools, staff are carrying things no manager or principal can help with. For that there is A Second PerspectiveA confidential staff wellbeing service for school districts, where any staff member can talk through whatever they are carrying with someone completely outside the building and the reporting structure.

Let's Talk

If anything here resonated with you, I'd love to hear from you.Whether you're thinking about a workshop, coaching for a middle leader, or you just want to have an honest conversation about what's happening in your school, get in touch.
